I'm not a resident of Vaughan....but man if I was.

OK so I am currently working at a newspaper publishing company in Toronto. They publish many different ethnic papers and I do graphic design for some of them. Amongst them are two English papers, The Town Crier and Vaughan Today. They run in and around the many different areas of Toronto and are monthly (TC) and weekly (VT). It's not animation related but is something steady in our current state of economic turmoil, plus I have a graphic design background so I'm doing well. Last week in VT, I had the opportunity to have a political comic published in the paper and am posting it below.

I understand why my teachers used to say it was so hard to work from photos when caricaturing people. I don't live in Vaughan and am unfamiliar with the politics there and was informed by the editorial people that the mayor is a trouble maker and they gave me the basic explanation for what the comic should look like.

So check it out there is my initial version the final printed version and my reference drawings along a photo of her.

PEACE!

Above are photos of the mayor.

Here is the rough idea sketch.

These are my finished version and the one that went to print that you can see in the paper.

Here is a pic that did not make it into THIS version of my portfolio maybe the next one...

This is a comparison of the girl in the portfolio page above my initial cafe sketch was very lacking so I decided to make it a strong drawing by using my structure to show her face and also I wrapped the glasses around the head better than they were.
